Saudi Deputy FM Calls for Unified Global Action to End Sudan War

LONDON: Saudi Deputy Foreign Minister Waleed bin Abdulkarim Al-Khereiji on Tuesday urged stronger international efforts to end the conflict in Sudan during his speech at the London Conference on Sudan.

According to the report, Al-Khereiji stressed that in addition to Sudan, the issue poses a threat to regional stability and the security of Arab and African nations.

He called for unified support for the peace process, including securing a ceasefire, delivering humanitarian aid, and preserving Sudan’s unity, institutions, and territorial integrity.

Representing Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan, Al-Khereiji highlighted Saudi Arabia’s diplomatic efforts, including hosting two rounds of talks that led to the Jeddah Declaration to protect civilians and agreements on temporary ceasefires and humanitarian aid coordination.

The second round of talks also resulted in the creation of a humanitarian platform under OCHA, the implementation of four confidence-building measures, and a proposed framework for resolving military base issues.

Al-Khereiji stressed the need to halt all external support to the warring factions, warning that foreign interference hampers peace efforts and obstructs the flow of aid.

He also denounced attempts to establish any parallel government in Sudan, describing such actions as illegitimate and harmful to the country’s sovereignty.

Reaffirming Saudi Arabia’s stance, he concluded that any resolution must be Sudanese-led and based on the principles of national unity, sovereignty, and the protection of state institutions.
